All you need to know about your kitesurfing or windsurfing holiday in Diego Suarez (Antsiranana), in the North of Madagascar.
We can arrange transfers by taxi from the Lodge to the town of Diego Suarez. Approximately 22 euros for 4 persons for a day-return journey.
Diego Suarez, called Antsiranana in Malagasy, is a pleasant port city by the Indian ocean, with trade winds and nice temperatures. It is protected by the vast bay of Diego Suarez, made of 4 white sand bays.
Tuk-Tuks are the best means of transport. They are convenient and cheap: about 15cts the trip per person.
All amenities are available :
- Small shops and a large Score supermarket,
- Banks and exchange offices,
- Various retail shops.
The Joffre Square offers a lovely view over the harbour. You can enjoy a meal or a refreshing drink in one of the restaurants, such as The Melville or The Tsara Be.
As the evening draws in, the city gets even more animated with music playing at the bars and lounges such as The Taxi Be or The Valliné which also host live music. Later on, for the night owls, two night clubs take over with a tropical ambiance, The Boîte Noir and The Nouvel Hôtel, until the early morning.
If you wish to get out of the city and discover the beautiful hiking territory, you can rent 125 or 250 Kawasaki motorbikes or scooters at DS MOTO.
You also have the opportunity to ride a Jet Ski in Ankoroki, at Rémi’s, who rents out the latest Yamaha jets. You will enjoy a day excursion around the Emerald sea or a short ride down to the Pain de sucre (“sugar loaf”) in the second biggest bay in the world, which easily rivals the Rio Bay! You will find that Diego Suarez is a lovely region full of things to discover, where many leisure activities are available.
From the Lodge, we can organise many of the regional excursions :
- The Montagne D’Ambre – about 1 hour away from Diego, with its indigenous flora and fauna.
- The Emerald Sea - exceptional lagoon where we organise a day of kitesurfing downwind.
- The Red Tsingy - spectacular rock sculptures and The Sacred Lake full of myth and crocodiles.
Part of discovering Madagascar is meeting its welcoming population. You will have the opportunity to mix with smiling and spontaneous habitants. You will follow the rhythm of these people, enthused by the mora mora (slowly slowly). Thus the time will sometimes feel like it has slowed down to let you appreciate the present moment, and take the time to share.
While discovering this cultural diversity, you will appreciate the authenticity of the Malagasy and will certainly fall in love with their beautiful country.
En découvrant ces richesses culturelles et humaines, vous apprécierez l’authenticité des malgaches et tomberez sans doute amoureux de leur beau pays.
